The WA Liberals will deliver affordable and reliable energy

The Cook Labor Government is setting WA families up for regular blackouts with an unrealistic plan to manage the net zero transition.

A WA Liberal Government will deliver Western Australia’s energy transition and meet our 2050 targets while keeping lights on, and air conditioners running, at a price families can afford.

Extensive industry consultation has revealed alarm at the government’s rush to shut down coal without a realistic plan to replace it.

Roger Cook’s current plan of ripping up 1,000MW of baseload generation over the next six years will leave Western Australians in the dark. We know there isn’t enough renewable generation and storage to replace it.

That’s why the WA Liberals are offering a cheaper and more reliable alternative.

We will build 300MW of new gas generation capacity, and boost gas supply in the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline so there is enough affordable energy to keep WA families from sitting in the dark.

We also won’t shut down the Collie Power Station until our energy grid is properly prepared to transition to other sources of energy.

This isn’t just realistic – it’s common sense.

Only a WA Liberal government will keep the lights on and air conditioners running at a price that Western Australians can afford.

WA deserves transparency regarding the handling of the Floreat murders.

Ariel Bombara’s brave statement released last week shines light on the incredible failings of this government.

Her statement directly contradicted what Roger Cook and the Police Minister told Western Australians, revealing WA Labor’s attempts at cheap political point scoring at a time when the community was grieving.

It’s clear from Ariel’s statement that a short sharp Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation is needed to investigate the concerns raised by the Bombara family in the lead up to the tragic murders.

Our police do an incredible job and are continuously asked to do more with less, but in this tragic circumstance an independent investigation is paramount to ensure this process is as transparent as possible.

Given Roger Cook and the Police Minister’s handling of this situation, it’s clear that they cannot be trusted to oversee these investigations themselves.

Western Australians expect and deserve transparency, and that’s exactly what the WA Liberals are calling for.

WA Labor, Roger Cook and the Police Minister have continuously failed to keep Western Australians safe:

1. They directly contradicted Ariel’s experience over multiple days;

2. Failed to bring coercive control legislation before Parliament;

3. Failed to bring GPS tracking legislation before Parliament;

4. Announced a crackdown on knives without any legislation;

5. Overseen WA’s first suicide by a youth in custody;

6. Completely botched the firearms legislation;

7. Overseen a 45% rise in family and domestic violence;

8. Meth has risen by 40% since Roger Cook became Premier;

9. Overseen the largest exodus of police officers from WAPOL; and

10. WA is now the violent crime capital of Australia.

WA Deserves Better.
