Following the success of our policy workshop on 4th May, I’m delighted to say the Policy Committee took this initiative to the regions over the weekend.
On Sunday, 25th August 2024, Policy Committee colleague Peter Hudson and I travelled to Northam to host our regional policy forum.
Our Liberal colleagues in rural areas face unique challenges that us city folks must pay close attention to.
This forum provided an invaluable opportunity for our regional members to directly contribute to policy discussions with Senator Slade Brockman and the Hon Steve Martin MLC.
We were also joined by Matt Moran, the recently endorsed candidate for Bullwinkle, who took part in the panel discussion.
The forum covered broad themes including property rights, regional housing and regional campaigning strategies.
It was especially heartening to see attendees travel from as far as south Albany and as far north as Geraldton to participate.
Attendees had the chance to voice their concerns on crucial issues like telecommunications, ageing community infrastructure, marine and national parks, aged care in the regions as well as State and Federal taxation.
A special thanks to Senator Slade Brockman and Peter Hudson for their tireless efforts in making this forum a reality.
We also extend our gratitude to Phil Twiss, Patron State Vice President to the Policy Committee and current Upper House candidate, for his support and contributions.
The forum also served as an opportunity to distribute free copies of The Contributor policy journal. The 6th edition can be downloaded from www.contributor.org.au.
The Policy Committee has plenty more planned for the rest of the year. Stay tuned.
