UPDATE ON RECENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Recently, I announced that a Mettam Liberal Government will deliver the Regional Health Development Initiative and a properly funded Kids Helpline.

Our health system is in crisis, particularly in the regions. WA Labor has failed regional health, and, despite record surpluses, Roger Cook has overseen a massive divestment in WA’s regional hospital system.

As Liberals, we staunchly believe that Western Australians living in the regions deserve the same access to quality healthcare as their metro counterparts.

That is why we are committed to reversing Labor’s neglect, and strategically investing to deliver regional communities the healthcare system they deserve.

The WA Liberals will establish a $400 million Regional Health Development Initiative to fund upgrades to services provisions, as well as capital works, like the Margaret River Hospital upgrades.

A WA Liberal Government will commit $6 million over four years to help increase Western Australian children and young people’s ability to access Kids Helpline.

2-in-3 calls to Kids Helpline go unanswered because this service doesn’t receive the critical funding necessary to deal with the exceeding demand.

Roger Cook’s priorities are all wrong. He’s happy to spend $8 million on a Coldplay concert, but he won’t fund services to help our children.

Kids Helpline is a critical resource for children and young people seeking support, particularly during times when other support services are not open or available.

I’d like to thank the Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Youth; Donna Farragher, for her strong advocacy in developing this key pillar of our party’s policy platform.

The additional funding – which will be allocated to yourtown, the operator of Kids Helpline – will support the service to expand its presence in Western Australia.

WA DESERVES A TRI-LOCATED WOMEN AND BABIES HOSPITAL

Last week, I was proud to stand alongside Dr Tim Pavy, King Edward Memorial Hospital’s former head of anesthesia, to reiterate our commitment to building a tri-located Women and Babies Hospital at the QEII hospital site.

Make no mistake about it, this election is a referendum on Women’s and newborns safety, and our plan is the only plan that will do whatever it takes, including cancelling contracts, to protect the lives of Western Australian newborns and their mothers.

Under the Cook Labor Government’s Murdoch site plan, vulnerable newborns will be left at the mercy of traffic gridlock and delay, potentially leading to the death and disability of hundreds of newborn babies each year.

Don’t just take my word for it - Dr Tim Pavy had this to offer:

“The proposed move of King Edward Memorial Hospital to Fiona Stanley Hospital will lead to the deaths of newborn babies”

Mothers and newborns deserve better than a Cook Labor Government that has stopped listening to Health experts.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH CANDIDATES

I was proud to join Wade De Campo (Liberal for Warren-Blackwood) and Heather Reid (Liberal for Bunbury) to announce our commitment to a $60 million upgrade to the Margaret River Hospital as part of our Regional Health Development Initiative.

Both Wade and Heather understand that their regions have been let down by a Cook Labor Government that has turned their back on them.

In Forrestfield, I joined our local Liberal candidate George Tilbury in meeting with local small businesses across the electorate.

George Tilbury is a strong and experienced voice that is so desperately needed in the Forrestfield community.

Finally, I joined my Deputy Liberal Leader, Steve Martin and Basil Zempilas at a local planning forum in Floreat.

Over 250 local residents attended, who shared a variety of views on the planning situation in their community.

It’s clear that both developers and locals share a common goal - a future in our state supported by the right kind of development in the right places.

Every attendee who spoke at the forum all agreed on one point - the Cook Labor Government has stopped listening.
