FIXING WA’S HOUSING CRISIS

Homeownership is in the Liberal Party’s DNA.

We believe every Western Australian deserves a fair shot at starting their home ownership journey.

But, after 8 years of WA Labor, that dream is increasingly out of reach, made worse by the least affordable rental market in the country.

After years of neglecting WA’s housing market, the Cook Labor government has created a crisis in our state with no idea of how to solve it.

Roger Cook has no answers – but we do.

Last weekend at State Council, we announced our Downsizing Incentive Rebate Scheme.

If elected, a WA Liberal Government will make it easier for older Western Australians to downsize from the family home - when the time is right for them.

We’ll do this by making a $20,000 rebate on transfer duty available for individuals or couples where at least one person is aged 60 or over.

This will help older Western Australians move out of larger homes while helping the next generation of families with younger kids get into the right-sized home.

This scheme will boost our housing supply, immediately, by 5,000 homes, if elected in March 2025.

There is no silver bullet to the housing crisis.

But our plan – stamp duty exemptions, the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund, and now the Downsizing Incentive Rebate scheme – demonstrates that only the Western Australian Liberal Party has a real plan to tackle WA’s housing crisis.

FIGHTING FOR OUR REGIONS

Roger Cook has consistently failed to stand up for our regions.

From shutting down Horizontal Falls to neglecting our sheep farmers and presiding over widespread regional blackouts, the Cook Labor Government has left our regional communities worse off.

Last week, I visited Kalgoorlie, and sadly, the challenges faced in the Goldfields have worsened under the Cook Labor Government.

Charities like Foodbank are under immense pressure, and essential services such as water and electricity are becoming increasingly unreliable.

A Mettam Liberal Government will take real action to secure Kalgoorlie’s electricity supply, ensuring the lights stay on and the community thrives. But the neglect under Cook Labor doesn’t stop there.

I was proud to stand alongside my parliamentary colleague, the Hon Neil Thomson MLC, and our outstanding candidate for Kalgoorlie, Rowena Olsen, to announce that a Mettam Liberal Government will secure Kalgoorlie’s water supply.

Our $14 million investment in Kalgoorlie’s Water Bank Project will not only boost the city’s recycled water supply but also create new jobs, drive economic growth, and ensure the sustainability of this vital regional hub.

This commitment is part of the WA Liberals’ broader plan to restore essential regional services and build a better future for communities across Western Australia.
