BACKING OUR POLICE

Western Australians deserve to feel safe in their own homes, but increasingly few do.

Since Labor came to power, family-related assaults are up 54%, threatening behaviour in the family home is up 140%, breach of restraining order is up 44%, assault is up 46% and robberies are up 44%.

Western Australians don’t need statistics to tell them there are more robberies, more drugs, and more anti-social behaviour – they are living through it.

WA desperately needs a change – and that’s what the WA Liberals will deliver.

On Sunday, we announced our $500m Community Policing policy to retain WA’s police officers and to crackdown on crime, making Western Australians safer.

It will deal with two pivotal issues facing law and order throughout WA – lack of police presence on our streets and the safety and welfare of our officers.

Our Community Policing policy to crackdown on crime will have four streams:

Safer Communities

Career Policing

Healthier Policing

Enhanced Policing

MAKING FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FREE

The Cook Labor Governments favorite spin mechanism of giving with one hand taking with another has taken an embarrassing turn this week.

The West Australian on Thursday reported that 13,000 West Australians had received fines from the Cook Labor Government for committing the crime of traveling on public transport for free without using their smartrider.

During Rita Saffioti and Roger Cook’s so called “fare free summer”, 4,000 West Australians were fined for using free public transport for free, a sneaky backdoor revenue raising scheme during their cost-of-living crisis.

A WA Liberal Government will make free public transport truly free; we will remove the need to tap on with a SmartRider and we will refund the $1.3 million in fines given out to West Australians by the Cook Labor Government.

Unnecessary bureaucracy is in the DNA of the Labor Party – cutting it is in the Liberal Party’s DNA, it’s just common sense.

WA LABOR PRIORITISES HEALTH LAST

WA Labor spent more on ports than health infrastructure last year, and ten times more on Metronet.

Is it any wonder that our health system is in crisis?

The 2023-24 financial year saw only $339 million invested in health infrastructure.

Meanwhile, WA Labor spent $355 million on ports and $3 billion on Metronet!

It’s clear that Roger Cook, and his Health Minister’s priorities are all wrong.

They’d rather invest billions into their pet projects instead of investing in the services every day Western Australians rely on.

The feedback we receive on the ground is that families have had gutful.

Last week, WA Liberal candidates Liam Staltari and Scott Edwardes hosted health forums in their electorates of Carine and Kingsley.

Over 200 attendees, including experienced health professionals, shared their stories of a health system that was letting them down time and again.

Some stories were truly harrowing.

Enough is enough.

Health is one of our key priorities in the lead up to the next election, a point we’ve made abundantly clear in our Building a Better Future blueprint.
