On Friday 31 May, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) released its proposed redistribution for Western Australia.
In summary, the proposal:
creates a new 16th electoral division to the east of Perth to be named ‘Bullwinkel’ in recognition of Lieutenant Colonel Vivian Bullwinkel AO MBE ARRC ED FNM FRCNA (1915–2000), a civilian and military nurse who was the sole survivor of the 1942 Bangka Island massacre and a prisoner of war;
retains the names of the 15 existing electoral divisions in Western Australia, and
makes alterations the boundaries of the 15 existing electoral divisions in Western Australia.
The next step in the redistribution process is the opportunity for political parties and members of the public to submit written objections to the proposed redistribution by 28 June 2024. The WA Liberal Party is undertaking further analysis of the proposed redistribution and will provide any relevant comments to the AEC.
